We are not the real owners of
anything anymore. We just borrow things from the System. Shiny, colorful
things, we agree to play with for a fee. A fee for life.
Because this system works only if you keep working to buy new things.
Not important if they are good things, just buy new crap, even better like that.
So everything gets outdated soon.

You home, stuff, car and computer, you will pay for everything you have for all
of your life. All the time: a monthly fee, forever until you die. That’s the
future; nothing is really yours. LAAS – Life As A Service.
You will rent your life.

I don’t support everything Anonymous do, particularly their scatter gun approach to targets, but this quote accompanying their release of 12 million Apple iPhone and iPad device identifiers found on an FBI computer could not be more germane today.
That might be small beer compared to the greater concerns of hacking and tracking that they raise but I’m getting increasingly annoyed at not being able to access songs, films and books that I have paid for on one device or platform or another. Maybe a return to physical CDs or LPs and books is the way to go. or maybe Bruce Willis can come to our rescue. Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker.

We are not the real owner…

Plastic bull

So much for the union…

Police on not using plastic bullets during London riots last year:

“The repercussions of using plastic bullets and the change in the way we police would have been long lasting,” said the deputy assistant commissioner Steven Kavanagh.

“It was a decision which could not be taken lightly.””

No such qualms however – yet again – in Belfast last night:

Mars attacks

Sweet fucking lord. I’m sure any sentient alien counterparts searching for intelligent life will rule out the solar system after hearing this.

Music to die to.

Tall fecking ships

What is so damn exciting about yet another bunch of tall ships clogging up another Irish city?

What is the attraction?

Where do these ships travel to? Where are they when they are not in Galway, Belfast and Dublin?

Pussy Riot and religion

Pussy Riot have just been convicted of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.”

Three more young women fall victim to Vladimir Putin‘s desire to return Russia to its totalitarian past.

The case once more demonstrated how readily political leaders use religion as their enforcer – the 3 members of the feminist punk collective were not convicted for their ant-Putin sentiments but fell victim to their – perhaps foolhardy – decision to perform at Moscow’s main Orthodox cathedral.

The judge’s summary stated that “the women were motivated by religious enmity and hatred, and acted provocatively and in an insulting manner inside a religious building in the presence of a large number of believers”.

While the case highlights the particularly Russian circumstance of government, official religion and judiciary uniting for common autocratic cause, it has global implications. A simple thought experiment: what fate would you imagine would befall punk protesters who were to deliver an expletive-laced anti-government or anti-Romney performance in any US church?
